This summer, Etihad Airways had its busiest summer in its four-year history, with its flights serving more than 1. 6 million passengers during the period from June to August. With a record 20,721 passengers making use of Ethiad's services, August 1st was the Abu Dhabi-based airline's busiest day. Etihad's passenger numbers saw an increase of 46 per cent on 2007 with summer flights operating at an average of 83 per cent capacity. James Hogan, Ethiad's chief executive said: 'The summer has been a great success with more than 1. 6 million passengers flying with Etihad Airways. 'Whilst June, July and August are traditionally the busiest months of the year for most airlines, the record number of passengers who flew with us underlines the considerable impact Etihad is having on the aviation industry. ' The United Arab Emirates airline is now on target to carry six million customers by the end of the year, having already served more than four million passengers across its 48 destinations so far this year. Etihad's service to London Heathrow Airport proved to be one of the airline's most successful, with flights on this route operating in excess of 91 per cent of total capacity, while flights to Paris, Manchester, Brussels and Dublin all seeing flights operate at more than 80 per cent of capacity in their economy cabins.
