Early bird holidaymakers who choose to reserve their 2009 summer holidays now stand to be somewhere in the region of £1,000 better off according to research published by ‘Which? holiday'. The research found that the best deals were on sale in August and September 2007 for three family holidays to Majorca in July 2008. Which? holiday's twelve month study also found that two of the holiday packages it was investigating were unavailable in May 2008, and that all three had been taken off the market by June. This suggests that waiting for last minute deals may not actually save you money. The study also investigated holidays to Cancun in Mexico in July 2008, finding that savings of more than £700 were available in February or March compared to significantly higher last minute deal prices. Editor of Which? holiday Lorna Cowan said: 'Our research shows that booking at the right time can save you a small fortune, but confusingly the 'right time' isn't the same for every type of holiday. 'If you can be flexible with your destination and dates, it may be worth waiting to see what deals come up. But, for families wanting to get away next summer with specific destinations in mind, we recommend booking in the next month or so to avoid disappointment when it comes to availability and cost. ' A recent TNS study for ‘Travel Weekly' found that some five million UK tourists are making plans to booking their holidays for summer 2009 over the next couple of months.
