According to a newly-published survey, it is expected that up to five million UK travellers will book their 2009 holidays in the next few months. The TNS research suggested that approximately 10 per cent of the British travelling population is to take advantage of advance discounts by booking their 2009 summer holiday before the end of December. Nearly 25 per cent of the survey's 2,000 respondents indicated that they had already begun gathering information and travel brochures to help decide on their holiday plans for next year. Reasons stated by survey participants for advance booking included securing their destination of choice, allowing time for budget planning and taking advantage of early booking discounts. Tom Costley, Head of travel and tourism at TNS commented: 'This early indication of the prospects for the 2009 season must be reassuring for the holiday industry. 'There seems to be resilience among large sections of the population that holidays are of sufficient importance that it is worth planning ahead for 2009, despite economic uncertainty. ' In encouraging news for the travel industry, around 60 per cent of those surveyed stated that the economic downturn was unlikely to have an impact on their actual holiday plans for 2009 beyond the time of booking and planning.
