A summer schedule of weekly flights from Newcastle Airport to the Canadian city of Toronto has been launched. Air Transat will operate the flights between May and September next year. 2010 will mark the seventeenth consecutive year that flights have been available to Toronto from Newcastle Airport. Head of planning and corporate affairs at Newcastle International Airport, Graeme Mason, said: 'This prestigious service linking Newcastle with Toronto is important for our region, which is why we are continuing to support and work closely with our partners at Canadian Affair to make it a success. ' Mr Mason added that a large number of Canadians would be likely to fly into the north-east region on the flights. Communication and marketing director at Canadian Affair, Kathryn Munro, remarked that Canadian Affair had received feedback travellers from the north-east that they preferred to fly direct to Toronto from Newcastle rather than having to catch connecting flights at other airports.
