bmi has announced that it will double the number of flights it operates to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia from January 15th 2009. The new flights will see bmi's services from Heathrow to Riyadh increase from three to six per week, with a flight every day except Friday. Passengers will be able to continue on to Dammam after touching down in Riyadh if they choose flights on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, with an opportunity to continue on to Jeddah on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. An agreement between the UK and Saudi Arabian governments that will permit extra air services between the two countries has enabled bmi's planned increase. bmi's chief executive officer Nigel Turner said: 'We are determined to take full advantage of the headroom that the revised air services agreement has created so as to meet the growing demand we are experiencing. 'The doubling of frequencies to Riyadh will enable us to offer an extremely attractive schedule that will appeal to point to point traffic as well as creating a much wider range of connecting opportunities at Heathrow, particularly to and from the USA' Mr Turner added. Airbus A330 aircraft will be operated on bmi's new flights to Riyadh, which will feature lie-flat beds for business class passengers. bmi launched its first flights to the Saudi Arabian capital back in September 2005. The service to Jeddah followed in May 2006, with the connection to Dammam launched in March 2008.
