Emirates Airline has received the second of its Airbus A380 superjumbos, bringing its total aircraft fleet to 122. The new Airbus aircraft will enter commercial service on 27th October after the successful completion of standard checks and maintenance. Emirates' Executive Vice President Engineering and Operations Adel Al Redha led a group of Emirates engineers and executives during the double-decker aircraft's delivery flight, which arrived in Dubai at 15:30hours local time. The new A380, which has been designed to transport passengers on long-haul flights, will join its sister A380 aircraft on Emirates' Dubai to New York JFK direct service. This will give Emirates a daily A380 service on the route to from Sunday. The airline currently operates two flights per day to New York JFK, with the second daily flight operated by a Boeing 777-300ER. Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, said: 'Emirates has an environmental goal to operate the world's most eco-efficient fleet and our second A380's arrival will further reduce the airline's average fuel use per passenger. 'By 2013, the arrival of at least 100 new aircraft and the retirement of some older aircraft will see a further improvement in Emirates' overall fleet efficiency' he added. Emirates' new A380 aircraft offer a fuel efficiency of three litres per 100 passenger kilometres, which is better than Toyota's acclaimed Prius hybrid cars (which use 4. 4 litres per 100km). The airline currently operates one of the newest, most technologically-advanced and efficient fleets in the world, with an average aircraft age of less than 65 months, which is half the industry's average of 11 years. Emirates is receiving on average one new A380 or Boeing 777 a month, in fulfilment of its order of over 170 new aircraft from Boeing and Airbus. The airline has a further 56 A380 aircraft on firm order, with two more to be delivered before the end of this year. With 14 private suites in First Class, 76 lie-flat seats with in-built massage function in Business, and 399 seats in Economy, Emirates has invested heavily in onboard features. These features include the First Class Shower Spa, two fully equipped bathrooms in the First Class cabins with shower facilities, a spacious Onboard Lounge, and its award-winning in-flight entertainment system that offers over 1,000 channels of movies, music and games for passengers in all classes. Economy Class passengers will also notice a difference in the A380 cabin with straight walls giving the impression of increased space, an advanced mood lighting system and a noticeably quieter cabin.
