French national carrier Air France landed its first Airbus A380 in a new hangar at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris on November 22nd. The A380's new hangar was specially designed with the maintenance of Air France's growing fleet of Airbus A380 aircraft in mind. The hangar, which covers an area of 25,800 square metres, was under construction for 24 months – which equates to a massive 455,000 hours of work. Compatibility and safety tests were conducted upon arrival on maintenance equipment, the body, the upper deck and other areas. All initial tests gave satisfactory results. Pending a rigorous series of compatibility tests, Air France will receive its first A380 for commercial use before the end of next year. Air France operates flights to hundreds of international destinations from its Paris hub. The airline served nearly 75,000 passengers during the year ending March 31st 2008. More than two thirds of these customers flew to and from European destinations.
