Both British Airways and Virgin Atlantic have announced that they reduced the fuel surcharges charged to their customers. BA announced that its World Traveller customers will see surcharges cut from £109 to £96 per flight for long-haul flights, while the charges will fall from £78 to £68 for shorter journeys. The airline's World Traveller Plus passengers will now pay surcharges of £114. 50 compared to the previous £121 on long-haul flights, while charges will be cut from £88 to £83 on shorter flights. Virgin Atlantic will matching BA's changes, with fuel charges on long-haul destinations for premium economy passengers falling from £121 to £114. 50 and from £88 to £83 for short-haul routes. Virgin's Economy travellers will pay £96 rather than £109 for long-haul services, and will pay a £68 surcharge rather than £78 on shorter routes. However, Virgin Atlantic's upper class surcharges will remain unchanged at £133 for longer flights and £98 for shorter journeys. Virgin Atlantic commented that the reductions in passenger furl surcharges have been brought in, in response to the sustained fall in the price of crude oil.
