Hand baggage restrictions to be lifted in New Year

Sunday 18 Nov 2007 9:51pm

The UK Government has announced that the restriction of only being able to take one piece of hand luggage onto a plane will be lifted in January 2008. The lifting of the restrictions is on the condition that BAA, operator of seven of UK's major airports, convinces the government that security will not be compromised. At present, passengers can only take one piece of luggage, and also fluids are restricted to just 100ml. BAA have reported that by January 2008, the only airport that will be able to ease restrictions and have the manpower and equipment to cope will be Heathrow. Passengers in First Class and business class are likely to see the restrictions eased with fast-track security channels being introduced. Premium business-class services such as Silverjet that operate from private terminals are unaffected by any BAA restrictions or processes.
