Keeping track of all the extra costs that airlines impose on passengers has just got more difficult with Ryanair flights. Up to 3rd June, passengers who check-in online are able to automatically board in the priority queue - a benefit put in place by Ryanair to encourage people to check-in online. From 3rd June, this 'perk' will no longer exist and if passengers want to have priority boarding, they will have to pay an extra 5 Euros each-way on their flights. In fairness to Ryanair, it does make the system fairer for all passengers but what it does signify is another charge by budget airlines. Passengers choosing NOT to check-in online have to pay a5 Euro charge at the airport and this charge will continue after 3rd June. Priority boarding has proved popular with families or groups and allows all of those members to board first and sit-together- rather than having to join the stampede of non-priority boarding passengers. As more people have been opting for online check-in and getting priority boarding the number of places available for airport check-in passengers to pay for priority boarding was greatly diminished. Ryanair are hoping that passengers checking-in at the airport will now also pay extra for priority boarding - an option that often isn't available when all the priority boarding places have been taken by internet check-in passengers.
