Ireland based Aer Lingus has commented on BBC Radio 4 about the increased landing charges announced by BAA at Heathrow Airport. On the radio show was Dermot Mannion from the airline who said [quote] "Business at all of our Heathrow routes is strong and we expect it to stay that way. We will continue to remain a very significant player at Heathrow well into the future". The announcement by BAA stated that they will be increasing aircraft landing costs by up to 23% at Heathrow - one of the world's busiest airports. Despite the increase in fees, the airline has stated that it sees a strong demand at Heathrow. Aer Lingus has recently terminated its route to Dubai and instead has introduced new flights to San Francisco, Washington and Orlando. This move has come as a result of the new Open Skies agreement which allows any airline to fly the lucrative transatlantic routes. The Irish airline said that it sees it performing well and being profitable from it numerous flights from Heathrow. Aer Lingus provides route all across Europe and long haul flights to further afield including New York and Los Angeles.
