You are here: Home / News / A busy easter for UK airports
Easter is normally one of the busier times of the year at airports with the long weekend inticing passengers to get away for a long weekend break or holiday. Its predicted that Easter 2007 will break records with over 190,000 passengers a day predicted to be going through Heathrow alone over the easter period - a total of over 1 million during the six day busy period. UK's number 2 busiest airport, Gatwick, looks to see over 600,000 passengers, Stansted over 450,000 and Scottish airports Edinburgh and Aberdeen handling over 200,000 passengers between them. Additional security procedures and checks will inevitably put greater pressure on the system with queues predicted at all major airports. With Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5 planned to open in time for Easter 2008, this year, the airport will have to cope with the extra demand as best it can. T5 will be exclusively for British Airways and will handle over 30 million passengers a year - resulting in passenger numbers at the other Heathrow terminals dropping by up to 50%. Its estimated that in 2007, Heathrow will handle over 68 million passengers when it was only designed to handle 45 million.
