Compensation goes unclaimed by passengers

Tuesday 08 Jul 2008 8:31pm

In a recent report by EUClaim, its claimed that passengers are not getting the compensation they deserve from delayed or cancelled flights. Its estimated that over 1000 passengers a day could be claiming up to £430 each for cancelled or delayed flights. Approximately 1. 2% of all UK flights are cancelled and an estimated £115 million a year is going unclaimed. An EC regulation, 261/2004, was introduced first in 2004 which protects passengers and allows them to claim compensation if they boarding is denied, if the flight is cancelled, if the flight is delayed, or they are downgraded. However, airlines don't have to pay out for cancelled flights where the flight is cancelled due to technical or mechanical reasons and its claimed that several airlines use this to their advantage. EUClaim are able to monitor every flight of every airline in the world and can cross reference this information against claims to ensure that airlines are not trying to get our of paying compensation for delayed or cancelled flights. So passengers, keep checking this site as we'll soon have a definitive guide as to what your rights are as a passenger and how to claim if your flight is delayed or cancelled.
