In June 2007, the decision from a public enquiry ruled that further expansion of Coventry Airport could not go ahead. . Coventry's expansion plans included the construction of a new terminal building to handle up to 2 million passengers per year. Although very close to Coventry, the airport falls under neighbouring Warwick district council and they cited that any expansion would have a detrimental impact - particulary in terms of noise pollution for the surrounding area. Coventry Airport's managing director, Chris Orphanou said [quote] "Our legal team has advised us that the decision is seriously flawed in law. We will be seeking a new inquiry". "Hundreds of our customers, together with MPs, elected councillors, local businesses organisations and companies wanting to invest in Coventry, have urged us to make the appeal". Mr. Orphanou and Coventry Airport have launched an appeal citing that their legal team believe the decision is flawed in law and they would be seeking a second inquiry. Many Coventry businesses are also backing the airport expansion plans as it would bring more business and jobs to the area. Airlines operating from the airport include Thomsonfly and Polish based Wizzair - both of which fly regular daily flights from the airport.
