Lapland Christmas treat for poorly Scottish children

Last month, sick children from around Scotland jetted off to Lapland from Prestwick Airport as part of a festive charity treat. A special charter plane called the ‘Lapland Express' left Prestwick Airport early in the morning, carrying 57 children who are currently battling life-threatening illnesses, and their families. The children were able to ride snowmobiles and go on husky rides across the Arctic Circle, as well as meet Santa and his reindeer. Mark Rodwell, chief executive of Prestwick Airport, stated: 'The annual trip to Lapland is a fantastic day out for these children and their families after all that they have been through. 'It is very humbling to see the sheer joy on their faces that this day brings and the airport is very proud that we are able to contribute towards making it happen. ' Infratil, the New Zealand company which owns Prestwick Airport, recently announced plans to invest £250 million in the expansions of passenger facilities.
