Delta Airlines unveils first inflight internet service

US carrier Delta Airlines has just announced that its first Gogo inflight internet service is being introduced onboard six domestic aircraft. These will be the first of Delta's 300 aircraft to offer the service. The first aircraft to have the Gogo service installed will operate shuttle routes from La Guardia Airport in New York to Ronald Reagan Airport in Washington and Boston Logan Airport. Delta customers on these flights who are in possession of personal digital assistants, smart phones and other Wi-Fi-enabled devices will have access the internet through the Gogo system. Delta Airline's senior vice president of marketing Tim Mapes said: 'In-flight internet access is one of the most popular requests we receive from our customers. 'Delta's launch of Gogo onboard these first Delta aircraft demonstrates our continued commitment to providing our customers with the options they want and value when they travel with us. ' Virgin America and American Airlines already have contracts with Gogo to provide in-flight internet access on their aircraft. Gogo will soon begin working with Air Canada, who operate flights to UK airports including Manchester Airport and Heathrow Airport, giving travellers to and from the UK their first opportunity to make use of the in-flight internet service. British airline bmi has recently announced plans for trials of its own in-flight communications system that would enable its customers travelling with laptops to have access to the internet during their flights.
