Flybe have announced a new route starting on 17th March 2008 from Jersey to Cardiff and operating twice a week. From 24th May to 27 September there will be an additional service each week, taking the total to three flights a week between Cardiff and Jersey. Flybe have increased their capacity from Jersey and now offer flights to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Paris and Newcastle from the small island off the coast of France. A Flybe spokesperson said [quote] "Our new route from Jersey sees Flybe confirming its commitment to the Island and further promoting the growth of regional air travel especially in when compared to other airlines which recently withdrew from a number of strategic routes to and from the Island. We see our new Cardiff service as a natural addition to our newly established route network out of Jersey and we are confident that another alternative destination can only be positive news for Islanders both in terms of business and leisure travel. " Jersey has historically been known as a tax-haven with many banks having offices on the island. In recent years the island has become more attractive to tourists with several other airlines commencing flights to the Island from mainland UK.
