Stockholm Arlanda Airport in the Swedish capital will continue to offer travellers to and from the hub the opportunity to get married in some unusual venues this year. Last year, some 523 couples tied the knot at the airport, an increase of six per cent on the previous year. It is expected that this number will rise further in 2009 with the new wedding locations on offer. Engaged couples will be given the opportunity to choose between saying their vows in a range of areas in the airport, including the air traffic control tower and the wing of a jumbo jet that serves as a hostel for travellers. Both traditional church and civil weddings will be on offer to couples at Stockholm Arlanda, on the proviso that they take a flight from the airport afterwards. Press officer at the airport, Helena Miller, said: 'For couples who want to prioritise their honeymoon trip, a wedding at Stockholm Arlanda directly in conjunction with an air trip is a good solution. 'Couples getting married there receive the same service as royalty, Nobel laureates, rock stars, corporate executives, sports stars and presidents. ' Major European airlines including SAS, Lufthansa, KLM and British Airways all operate flights to Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
