Swiss launches new first class service

Thursday 19 Feb 2009 11:37am

Swiss has unveiled a new first class cabin service, which it plans to introduce this spring. One of the selling points of the new service will be its lie-flat seats, which can extend to more than two metres in length and include a down-filled duvet and a pneumatic air cushion for optimum comfort. Additional features will include a 23-inch in-flight personal entertainment screen and a guest seat that will allow first class customers to dine or work together if they wish to. Swiss' chief marketing and product officer, Christoph Beckmann, said that the airline was 'setting new benchmarks for individual travel' with its new first class facilities. Mr Bechmann added: 'Our 'suite above the clouds' underlines Swiss' positioning as a top quality airline, and marks a further consistent step in our ongoing quality drive, both on the ground and in the air. ' The first class cabin will be introduced as part of the airline's fleet renewal programme, which will see Swiss replace its Airbus A330-200 aircraft with the more fuel-efficient A330-300. Swiss offers daily flights to Basel, Geneva and Zurich in Switzerland from its UK bases at London City Airport, Heathrow Airport, Manchester Airport and Birmingham Airport.
