Following the Silverjet business model of flying certain routes with just business-class seats onboard, British Airways have announced that in 2009 it will start a twice-daily business class only service from London City Airport to New York. The airline has already ordered two Airbus A318 planes to operate these flights - each of which will be kitted with 32 business class only seats. A BA spokesman said that the aim is to provide a niche service to fly passengers between the heart of the two largest financial centres in the world. London City airport is only a short drive from Canary Wharf where many corporate clients are based. BA aim to provide a 15-minute check-in at both ends of the journey and with only 32 passengers on board, there should be a minimal distruption to getting on and off the plane. Wille Walsh from BA said [quote] "The London - New York route is a key market for us and these flights will be in addition to our current Heathrow schedule from where we fly eight times a day to JFK and three times a day to Newark. As well as the business market, we are confident that there will also be a demand from premium leisure customers for this service. The A318 is the perfect aircraft for these flights. It is capable of operating at London City and is large enough for us to provide the number of business class seats required to make this a viable operation. " British Airways operate flights all around the world and will be opening the new Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport in March 2008
