Air France will begin operating flights to New York from Paris using the Airbus A380, later this month. The airline received its first A380 on 30 October and will take delivery of a further three of the 12 planes it has ordered from Airbus by spring 2010. The new Air France A380 will run daily flights from Charles de Gaulle Airport, Paris, to JFK Airport in New York, from 23 November. A service from Paris to Johannesburg will follow in the winter 2009-10 season. Air France is the first European airline to operate the Airbus superjumbo aircraft, and will also be the first airline in the world to offer flights between Europe and the US on the A380. Chief executive of Air France, Pierre-Henri Gourgeon, said: 'Each A380 will enable Air France to save €12 million to €15 million a year, which, in today's depressed economic climate, provides the company with the means to withstand the crisis. 'Air France will therefore be able to offer its customers even greater comfort, while keeping its costs under control. ' Air France's A380 will offer 538 seats in tota - 449 in economy, 80 in business class and nine in first class.
