London City Airport has announced that the refurbishment of its departure lounge will move into its second phase this month. The £1. 5 million project is an improvement scheme that began earlier this year and is due to be completed sometime in spring next year. The redevelopment of the departure lounge has been designed to combine a 'sense of calm and relaxation' with the 'functionality' that the airport's core passenger base of business travellers expect, according to London City Airport. The refurbishment's first phase was completed in May, and has seen the departures area equipped with Wi-Fi access and laptop power points, along with new retail outlets and 250 extra passenger seats. London City airport's chief executive, Richard Gooding, commented: 'Phase one was completed earlier this year to coincide with the launch of four new aircraft parking stands. That work, at a cost of some £40 million, has allowed us to significantly improve our operations on the airfield and introduce a unique rest and work space for passengers in the departure lounge. 'This second phase will confirm London City Airport's status as the UK's foremost business travel airport. ' London City Airport claims to be the UK's most successful airport at the moment, with a 23 per cent growth rate in 2007, compared with an average of two per cent recorded at all other airports across the UK.
