British Airways has announced that November saw the airline record its best punctuality performance for seven years. Close to 87 per cent of BA's short-haul flights departed on time in November, an achievement that has been partly attributed to the continuing improvement of Heathrow's Terminal 5. Last month was also the first month to see British Airways operate full capacity operations at the new terminal. More than 13 million customers have now passed through the terminal. British Airways scored a punctuality rate of 94 per cent for November for flights from Gatwick Airport, which the airline claims is the highest figure on record for any 'significantly sized carrier' at the airport. BA's rate of lost baggage has also improved dramatically, from a peak of 38 bags per 1,000 passengers (recorded in summer 2007), to just 12 bags per 1,000 customers in November. Andy Lord, operations director for British Airways, said: 'Our punctuality and baggage performance continues to improve every month and our customers are really noticing the difference. 'Terminal 5, after eight months of use, is already delivering levels of performance well in advance of what was expected and well in advance of other major airports or terminals so early in their life. ' The Civil Aviation Authority recorded a punctuality rate of 70 per cent for scheduled flights in a recent survey of ten of the UK's biggest airports – a four per cent improvement on the same time last year.
