easyJet Expands from Manchester

Saturday 15 Dec 2007 2:15pm

Starting in March 2008, residents around Manchester Airport will start to see the orange and white logo of easyJet in the skies as the airline starts flying from the airport for the first time. The massive expansion of budget flights from the airport will make easyJet the biggest carrier in the north-west of England. Several new foreign destinations have already been announced with the airline having big plans up to 2010 with an estimated 4 million people a year using the airport for easyJet flights by that time. Earlier this year, easyJet bought GB Airways - a British Airways franchise. GB Airways will continue to fly up to 29th March under the GB Airways brand. From March 2008, the planes will be rebranded in easyJet colours and before 2010 a further three planes will be added to the network. Mike Campbell from easyJet's said that easyJet have recognised a very strong demand for low cost services from the North West of England and are planning to also increase planes at Liverpool's John Lennon airport by 2010 - increasing from 8 to 10. He added: [quote] "The GB Airways operation at Manchester provides us with a great base on which we can build to tap into a new market. easyJet remains committed to our base at Liverpool and, by launching additional operations from Manchester, we can make it even easier for everyone in the North West to access easyJet's services from their local airport, giving customers the opportunity to explore Europe for less". The move to expand at Manchester strengthens its position as one of the premier airports outside of London.
