Singapore Airlines has beaten Cathay Pacific, Qantas and Emirates to win the title of world's best carrier at the 2008 Skytrax Airline of the Year awards. The award, which is based on more than 15 million interviews, was presented to Singapore Airlines for the third time in the last decade. Singapore Airlines also retained their best business class carrier award. Edward Plaisted, chief executive of Skytrax, extended his company's congratulations to Singapore Airlines, and added that: 'business class standards continue to be upgraded by airlines across the world and Singapore Airlines managed to retain their title amidst this growing level of competition. ' Emirates scooped the best provider of in-flight entertainment accolade, while Qantas was named best first class lounge provider in recognition of its facilities at Sydney airport.
