London City Airport wants to increase flights by 50 percent

London's City Airport based a short drive from Canary Wharf, has submitted an application to the local council to allow it to increase the number of flights per year from 80,000 to 120,000 - an increase of 50%. Expanding the airport would offer many benefits to London, would create over 1000 local jobs and bring increased economic activity to the area. However there is a concern that additional flights would lead to additional noise pollution for the area. The airport is extremely popular with business travellers and is an extremely popular gateway to other major European cities. London City has a relatively short runway which makes it impossible for long haul flights to be able to take-off. However, the airport does provide flights to a variety of European destinations including Berlin, Zurich, Amsterdam and Madrid. Airlines such as Swiss, British Airways, SAS and Lufthansa are just some airlines offering flights from the airport.
