Family areas on flights supported by most passengers

According to new research, most passengers are in favour of an initiative to designate separate areas on flights for families with young children. 10,000 people were interviewed by a US-based consumer group called airfarewatchdog. com, who found that 85 per cent of those asked thought that it was a good idea to separate travellers with children from other passengers. Spokesman for the Air Transport Users Council James Freemantle said that there was 'no reason' why such a scheme could not be introduced. 'Many airlines already use systems where passengers pick their own seating, so asking those travelling with children to sit in a certain section of the plane is entirely up to the airline' he added. According to the survey, travellers were also found to be intolerant of overweight passengers, with more than four out of five suggesting that clinically obese fliers should be required to buy an extra seat.
