Flight system upgrade at Belfast International Airport

A new flight management system has been installed at Belfast International Airport in an effort to benefit airlines, passengers and other airport users. The new system has been engineered by ICS Computing to offer 'major time and cost savings' to Belfast International and 'place the airport ahead of its competitors in terms of operating efficiencies'. Public display boards for arrival and departure information and related web pages will draw information from the new flight management system each minute to ensure that the information displayed is entirely accurate at all times. Technical services manager Denis Brown highlighted the importance of the new system being 100 per cent reliable, revealing that five million passengers are expected to travel through Belfast International Airport this year. 'It's an essential communication tool which allows all airport staff - air traffic control, apron control, airport police and customs - to access real time information on each flight and coordinate a timely response,' Mr Brown added. 'So far we are absolutely delighted with the new system and expect its improved processing speed will save us one to two days per week on administration time - which in itself is really quite remarkable. ' In other news, it was recently revealed that the new Continental Airlines flight service linking Belfast International to New York is proving popular with passengers who wish to access connecting flights to Orlando, Las Vegas, Miami as well as other onward destinations.
