Exeter Airport remains committed to expansion

Wednesday 15 Apr 2009 8:13am

Exeter Airport's development director has confirmed that the hub will continue to pursue its existing long-term expansion plans in spite of the current falling trend in customer demand. Exeter has emerged as one of the UK's fastest-growing airports in recent years with the launch of budget flights from Devon's county town to a variety of domestic and European destinations. The airport's development director, Clive Coleman, has stressed that the future remains promising for Exeter despite recent figures indicating that domestic passenger numbers have fallen by ten per cent . The director made his comments at a meeting of the University of Exeter's Business Leaders' Forum. Mr Coleman said: 'We are still very much committed to developing the airport for the benefit of Exeter. 'People don't want to fly abroad so much and are understandably cutting back on expenditure like having a third or fourth short break a year. ' Figures recently released by Exeter Airport indicated that it contributed some £105 million to Exeter's economy in 2007.
