Virgin Atlantic expects transatlantic market to get more competitive

The "open skies" agreement which came into place on 30th March 2008 allows any airline to fly between any city in Europe to any city in the United States. Virgin Atlantic which operate several transatlantic routes including London to New York are expecting increased competition over the coming months. A spokesman for the airline said "The transatlantic market is already one of the most competitive aviation markets in the world and more competition will open up now phase one of the new open skies agreement has come into effect". A warning was also given to other airlines looking to start operating London to US flights and that Virgin Atlantic are more than ready to do battle to maintain passengers. Increased competition on routes normally results in lower prices for passengers - although with continually increasing fuel costs, its unknown whether this could offset and lower fares for passengers. Our advice to passengers is, as always, to get prices for several airlines before choosing the best one for you.
