US based EOS Airlines has gone bankrupt and filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection in the United States. The last flight to fly the London to New York route left London's Stansted airport at 6. 30pm local time. An announcement on the EOS company website said that the airline will now cease trading. The transatlantic route is highly competitive and EOS Airlines becomes the second airline in less than 6 months to go bankrupt for the London to New York routes. MAXjet was the other airline and closed down just before Christmas - leaving many passengers stranded or having to find an alternative airline to fly with. Both EOS Airlines and MAXjet were business-class only carriers who flew planes with just business class seats. Although ticket prices are higher, it looks likely that getting the seats filled was a problem. The only airline still running flights from London to New York and offering just a business-class only service is Silverjet. The Luton based airline (which also flies to Dubai) was quick to offer EOS Airlines passengers an alternative way of getting to New York. Never one to loose a marketing opportunity, Silverjet's CEO said [quote] "Our commitment lies firstly with ensuring our own passengers enjoy Silverjet's seamless stress free experience but we hope that this offer will provide some peace of mind to EOS passengers.
