Coventry Airport started operating its passenger terminal only as recently as April 2004 when cheap flight airline, Thompsonfly, started flying from the site. It is a small airport with limited facilities although these are improving. The current facilities are an interim solution with a new terminal being planned to handle up to 2 million passengers per year. In the second half of 2006, over £3.5 million was spent on improving facilities including new car parking facilities and various runway improvements - all paving the way for the airport's growth in coming years. ThompsonFly operates various cheap flights from Coventry to destinations across Europe including Malaga, Pisa and Salzburg. Wizz Air have also announced flights starting in summer 2007 to Poland - and demand looks to be high with a large Polish community in Coventry, Rugby and the surrounding areas. Coventry Airport is also a large freight operation with Parcelforce Worldwide having its national hub based there - which also doubles as the International hub.
