Situated on the Moskva River is Russia's capital, Moscow. Moscow is known as the most populous city in Europe with a population of around 11 million. It's the most expensive expatriate city in the world. On the bright side, Moscow offers a lot of means for transportation. There are four airports in the city! Aside from that, there are two water terminals and intercity and inter-country bus services as well as ferries. In addition, the longest rail line around the globe can be found here. The western hub of the Trans-Siberian railway is situated in the city of Moscow. One of the most popular attractions in the city of Moscow is the Kremlin. Moscow's Kremlin is lined up with the largest museums in the whole world. Here you will find a collection of the most popular as well as tragic events in history. You will find the treasures and icons, not only of Moscow, but of Russia as well.
Its cathedrals and chambers safely hold all the memories of the past and present centuries. The Kremlin has also contributed to Russia's history. It was where a number of revolts, festivities, and battles have taken place. While you're here in the Kremlin, make sure to visit its most beautiful tower, the Spasskaya Tower. The tower was constructed in the year 1491 by Pietro Antonio Solari. It served as the main entrance to the Kremlin during that time. An eighteenth century Russian art molding, the Emperor Bell, stands below the Bell Tower of Ivan the Great. Moscow's Gun Court had other large bells to feature back in the sixteenth to seventeenth centuries. Unfortunately, they have been damaged and destroyed. Moscow has a lot of world records to boast, one of which is the oldest and largest cannon, the Emperor Cannon. It was cast by Andrey Shchokhov in 1586. The huge gun of 5 meters and 34 centimeters is located in the Gun Court as well. It has a diameter of 120 centimeters with a caliber of 890 millimeters. The Emperor Cannon has been moved several times. During the 18th century, it was moved to the Moscow Kremlin. At first it was placed in the court yard. Afterwards, it was placed at the main gate of the Kremlin. By 1835, it had been moved to the St. Petersburg Berd Factory. After a while, it was placed on a gun carriage opposite the Arsenal. B 1960, the Emperor Cannon was moved to Ivanovskaya Square, where it still remains today. The Red Square is another main attraction. It was established during the 15th century at the time of Ivan III. The wooden buildings were ruined and threatened with fire. It was then allotted for a market place. Thus, it got the name, Trade Square. But by the 16th century, it was named Trinity Square or Troitskaya Square. It was named after Saint Trinity Church. Afterwards, it was the Cathedral of Vasily which replaced the St. Trinity Church. It was in the 19th century when it got its modern name, the Red Square.
