Milan is a fabulous city to visit. It is a very elegant city, which somehow just oozes glamour and sophistication and it is well served by some fantastic restaurants, cafes and places just to have an espresso and watch the world go past. A real modern, chic and urban feel to a city which is quite old, is actually quite rare and it is this which gives Milan its unique ambience. Reputedly Milan was inhabited as early as the year 400 BC, so it certainly does have a history! It is one of the most important places in the world for the fashion industry and fashion really is big in Milan, which makes the shopping excellent!
The climate in Milan is not really like the rest of Italy, but it is a good all year round destination, although it can be very hot and dry in the summer, but also is fairly pleasant in the winter, with a cold climate, but one which will not prove too cold, but it has to be said, that it can be quite damp in the winter and humidity is a problem throughout the year. It is also a city which is quite a good size, with just under 1.5 million residents. It also has an excellent public transport system, with a metro system as well as a suburban railway system and trams etc, so finding your way around will be quite easy. There really is so much to see and do in Milan. Here you will find some really famous paintings by none other than Leonardo Da Vinci as well as some incredible architecture. Indeed, suffice to say that this is one of the most famous and respected arts locations within Italy and it is obvious that this is a place which is vitally important in terms of both art and culture. One of the things you simply must do is to go and see Leonardo Da Vinci's picture, The last Supper' which is to be found in the Santa Maria delle Grazie church and is an absolutely amazing painting. You should also check out some of the other churches, as well as the opera houses, the art galleries etc. One of the libraries, the Ambrosiana has an astounding collection of notebooks and some sketches/drawings made by Leonardo Da Vinci. Again, this is a must see. But when you are in Milan, you should also take some time to appreciate modern Milan. There are lots of modern buildings to be seen and you should also take time just to do some shopping. You can buy some exquisite items here, from cutting edge designers, to young people just starting out or even retro at markets. It is just interesting watching other people out shopping in Milan; such is the mix of people. So simply savour and enjoy this fabulous city. Who flies to Milan? Most major airlines fly to Milan.
