Mini-Guide To Florence

Florence as the capital city of Tuscany is a veritable delight for all. Nestling on the River Arno, it is a city renowned for its beauty and its culture. Since medieval times, this has been a city that has been important in terms of trade and finance and it has been identified as the birthplace of the great Italian renaissance. This long and rich history is reflected in the fact that this city is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Local Airports In Florence

With its very moderate and almost Mediterranean climate, this is a year round destination, which has an amazing amount of things to see and do. The Cathedral is perhaps the most iconic landmark in the whole of the city, with its dome being almost instantly recognisable from the various pictures and films in which it has featured. Near to the Cathedral is the Campanile Tower, which was designed in part by Giotto and is almost as famous. The Fountain of Neptune in the city centre is also an amazing sight and there are many bridges which offer a superb vantage point, overlooking the Arno and giving a new perspective on the city. The food is Italian cuisine at its best and there is a real Florentine, as well as Tuscan influence in terms of the dishes available. Wine is also superb in this region, which makes this an exciting place for gourmets. Shopping, a vibrant nightlife and some wonderful facilities all combine to make this a really special city. It is also easy to visit, with its own airport which is served by flights from Lufthansa, Air France and others, offering connecting flights from the UK.
