Berlin was once the proud symbol of the greatness' of Germany, then it became the symbol of the greatness' of Eastern Germany, now it has been reinstated as the capital of Germany and it deserves this status, since it is a fascinating city to visit and experience. Somehow it still has a different feel to it and there is an air of the eastern influences which have helped shape Berlin. Yet it is also a very vibrant city which is very much alive and embracing the future. Like so many other parts of Germany, the public transport system in Berlin is exceptionally good and of course, very efficient and everything does run on time! The system is also very comprehensive, there is an urban railway system, the S Bahn as well as an underground, U-Bahn system. In addition there are various trams and buses, all of which you can use with just one ticket, so you don't have to keep worrying about buying new tickets. Given the size of Berlin, it is home for almost five million residents, you will need to use public transport to get around, since it is just too big to manage on foot.
Berlin has a relatively mild climate, with temperatures which do drop just below freezing in winter, but not too far below zero, whilst in the summer, the average temperature is just below 20 celsuis, which makes it an ideal place to visit all year round. There is plenty to interest everyone in Berlin. This has been an exciting and vibrant spot for years and whilst some of this energy and Zeitgeist' was undoubtedly repressed during the Communist years, Berlin has once again, risen from the ashes and is simply buzzing with things to do.
