Paris is renowned as being a city for lovers, a city full of chic glamorous people and for being at the cutting edge of fashion. It is also famous for the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower. Yet there is so much more to Paris. With a population of over 2 million, it is in fact a relatively large city. Yet it is easy to get around. The metro system is easy to navigate and there are plenty of buses as well. Its climate is also very good, with relatively mild winters and summers which are not too hot.
Things to do in Paris? Well there are so many things to do, that it is hard to recommend only a few. One thing which is great to do is to take a trip on the Seine. This is a wonderful way to see the city in all its splendour, from the comfort of a tour boat and helps you to identify places and areas which you want to explore. It can also be very romantic, so if you are going on a trip with your loved one, make a Seine Tour top of your list of things to do! You should also include the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe in your itinerary. You should also fit in the Place de la Concorde with its wonderful fountains, ancient buildings and monuments. You walk down the Champs Elysees to get to the Place de la Concorde from the Arc de Triomphe, so these can easily be fitted into a morning. There are some great shops in the Champs Elysees, so hold onto your wallet, since they are also very expensive and chic! Another tourist favourite is the Louvre art gallery (note it is shut on Mondays) where you can see the Mona Lisa in all her glory! The Louvre also has a very extensive range of artworks, many of which are as prized as the Mona Lisa. For those who are visiting with the young at heart, or are just young at heart, why not take a trip to Disneyland Paris? This is around 40 minutes by train from Paris (some 32 kms to the east of Paris). It really is great fun for kids of all ages. When in Paris you simply have to sample the cuisine as well. One tip is to make sure that French people are eating in any restaurant you are considering. If it is tourists only, then the prices may be expensive, food poor and service not so good, but if the French are frequenting it, then it is probably quite good. Another must see' is Notre Dame Cathedral, which is to be found on the Ile de la Cite. This is a very small island, which is located on the River Seine. When in Paris it is also a prerequisite that you spend some time having a coffee or a glass of wine in one of the cafes which nestle on the pavement. Then you just watch the world go by and savour the sights which pass on the streets. Smartly dressed people, women with their lap dogs, and lovers strolling past with eyes only for each other. Paris is a city like no other and although sometimes it can seem busy and full of people, there are lots of quiet pockets, where you can just recharge your batteries and then start sightseeing again. A real gem of a city! Flights to Paris are operated by most airlines. These include, Air France, bk, I, British Airwyas, Ryanair and Easyjet.
