You are here: Home / Europe / France / Nice
For a destination where glamour, sophistication, some great food, wonderful opulence and terrific beaches are all thrown in, then look no further than Nice. Commonly referred to as the Queen of the Cote d'Azur, Nice is the second largest city in France and one which is very much an upmarket destination, where you will be rubbing shoulders with the rich and very rich. However, you don't need to be super rich to enjoy Nice, since it does have some very upmarket facilities, but it is also accessible to all. After all anyone can stroll along the harbour, or browse in the Flower Market and people watching is hugely entertaining and absolutely free. So whatever your budget, you will have a fantastic time here.
Nestled on the sea, with luxurious yachts anchored in the marina, the sea here is a wonderfully clear blue, tinged with green and with sunny skies throughout the summer and with relatively mild winters, Nice really is a year round destination. There is also plenty to see and do here. As you may expect, the nightlife in Nice is really exciting and vibrant. Bars, nightclubs and cafes all come alive at night and whilst some, particularly in the upmarket hotels, are quite expensive, they are not all prohibitively expensive, so you can afford to live it up a little. The food is of extremely good quality, with lots of very authentic French dishes on offer, as well as some very modern cuisine, which is famous internationally, since Nice is such a trend setter, not just throughout France. Nice also offers a whole host of attractions and things to do. Some of the buildings here reflect the fact that Nice has long been a city which is relatively rich and opulent. This has resulted in many very splendid buildings being created and the architecture is simply stunning. One of the most famous buildings is the Russian Cathedral which is a definite must see' when in Nice. Another of the most popular attractions is the Cours Saleya Flower Market which runs from Tuesday to Sunday (with a flea/antiques market held on Mondays). Here you will see the most beautiful flowers, from all over the world, many of which are quite exotic. The market is also surrounded by cafes and little shops, so you can spend some time having a coffee and just taking in the sights. Museum and art lovers will be delighted by Nice. Only Paris has more galleries and museums than Nice, so whatever your interests or tastes, you will find something of interest to you. No mention of Nice would be complete without reference to the shops. Here you will find shops which stock the most expensive and opulent goods at prices which are affordable to only a few. But they are great for window shopping! But there are other shops, where you can find luxury goods at quite reasonable prices. Accessories are a particularly good buy here. So for a really interesting trip, laced with glamour, then make Nice your next stop. Flights to Nice are operated by most major airlines, including Flybe, Klm and Easyjet.
