You are here: Home / Caribbean / Jamaica / Kingston
Kingston, the capital of Jamaica and indeed its largest city is a superb place to experience the best of Jamaican life. It is also quite a historic city, which was founded as early as 1693. This is reflected in the many historic buildings to be found here, proving that there is more to Kingston than just sunny skies and fantastic beaches, which are within very close proximity. One must see when you are here is the Bob Marley Museum, which was the former home of Bob Marley and has a great collection of memorabilia associated with him.
The National Art Gallery is another must see when you are here, with its outstanding collection of pre 20th century art and works. The Botanical Gardens are also well worth a visit, just to experience the amazing fauna and flowers which are indigenous to Jamaica. But whilst you are here, you should also find the time, just to relax, unwind and get to grips with the slow and laidback way of life. Sit in a bar and have a beer, or just meander through the shops and see all the wide variety of foods and trinkets on offer. Whatever you choose is ok, so long as you just chill out and enjoy the warm weather and the warm welcome which Jamaicans usually have to offer. The food in Kingston is very good, with some very really great dishes to try, many of which sound familiar, but are very different to the tamer varieties we find in the UK. Getting to Kingston is also quite straightforward, with flights offered by Virgin Atlantic as well as British Airways.
